Eurotech Designs FastWater 50 SailCat
was designed to offer a high strength blue water cruising catamaran that can provide the
speed, comfort, and safety required for extensive offshore passages. She is intended for
both experienced sailors and new comers alike who are in search of a yacht that will
compliment their active life styles. The protected cockpit offers excellent visibility
while the interior focuses on the needs of one couple with room for guests and children.
The hull shapes have been developed for performance, safety and
sea kindliness. Each hull features a long waterline with a narrow waterline beam for
efficiency, and a fine entry forward with broad stern for speed and reduced pitching in a
seaway. The generous overall beam provides the stability required for offshore sailing,
without limiting the ability to fit into marinas. The bridgedeck between the hulls offers
excellent clearance above the water and is v-shaped in order to minimize impact with
waves. The topsides are flared to keep the deck dry and to increase the interior volume
for living accommodations. The sheer and cabin house profiles have been kept clean and
simple for a long sleek look and to minimize weight. Each hull is outfitted with a high
lift balanced rudder, and high lift shallow fin keel eliminating the need for complicated
dagger boards which would otherwise interfere with the interior layout. The keels are
hollow with the forward and aft sections sealed off with collision bulkheads ,creating a
centrally located bilge sump in each hull for the collection of bilge water. The twin 56hp
diesels with three blade feathering propellers offer fast motoring speeds, and precise
control with the standard bowthruster and electronic shift/throttle engine controls. The
sail plan consists of a high performance fractional sloop rig featuring the EuroTech Soloboom
roller furling, self tacking jib, with all controls leading to a self tailing electric
winch at the helm for true single handed sailing.
The hull and deck of the FastWater 50 SailCat
have been designed for strength and lightweight utilizing EuroTechs FastForm
computer aided solid sheet aluminum construction technique, Alustar 5059
alloy and CeRam-Kote protective coating. The internal structure
consists of aluminum longitudinal stringers and aluminum ring frames with honeycomb-cored
fiberglass center sectioned bulkheads. The entire hull and deck are insulated for thermal
and acoustic considerations. The interior structural soles and bulkheads are of honeycomb
cored fiberglass sandwich construction and the interior joiner work is a combination of
lightweight wood veneered panels with hardwood trim. This method of hybrid construction
offers light weight,. with high strength, and when combined with EuroTechs SemTech
(systems, equipment & materials) advanced outfitting technology provides a seaworthy
vessel that is truly easy to maintain and operate.
